Religion and Ethics

Special religious education (SRE) is the beliefs and practices of an approved religious persuasion delivered by authorised representatives of that persuasion. It is the distinctive religious tenets and beliefs of the home and family, provided by the churches and other religious groups for children of parents expressing the desire that they receive such teaching.

Section 32 of the Education Act 1990 requires that in every government school, time is to be allowed for the religious education of children of any religious persuasion.

At Asquith High School, SRE is delivered for one hour a fortnight on:

On enrolment parents/caregivers will be given the SRE participation letter to complete and return. After the initial enrolment, notification of changes to a child's enrolment in SRE should be given to the Principal or nominee (Stage 4 Deputy Principal), in writing.

The following SRE classes are offered at Asquith High School:

Combined Christian SRE

Our authorised provider is the  Hornsby and Asquith Districts Christian Education Association  (HADCEA). All Christian SRE teachers are authorised and trained by this approved provider.

For more information about Combined Christian SRE, including the authorised curriculum scope and sequence, please visit the approved provider’s website at Think Faith - Christian Education Publications.

Islamic SRE

Our authorised provider is the Australian Islamic Education Services. All Islamic SRE teachers are authorised and trained by this approved provider.

If you do not wish for your child to attend SRE, they will be placed in a Non-SRE class (NSRE). Students in a Non-SRE class will complete independent study under the supervision of a teacher.  It is important that students attend their timetabled class as per school attendance policy.

When completing the Asquith High School online enrolment, section 11 of the application, Supplementary details, provides the option for parents/caregivers to select an SRE class.
